12 Seeing God’s Eternal Power and Divine Nature The sun, moon, and stars bring glory to God’s eternal power and divine nature. These luminaries provide the light we need to see and learn about all of God’s creation. And God created day and night, seasons and years by creating a revolving earth to orbit the sun and the moon to orbit our earth. So these lights give us order and variety with our days and nights and seasons, and they give us insight into God’s desire for order and variety. Of course the sun also provides the warmth we need to live and the energy our plants need to grow; and the sun’s color spectrum allows us to enjoy the beautiful colors of God’s creation. And God uses the sun to create water vapor from our oceans which He changes into rain that we need for drinking and for growing our food. So just a few thought- ful observations reveal that God is incredibly powerful and intelli- gent. And yet He is very kind and gracious in providing the light we need to live and to learn and to enjoy His orderly and beautiful environment with a seasonal variety that brings spice to our lives. We see God’s great power and His gracious goodness in the crea- tion of tiny little seeds that provide an amazing variety of food. Consider the ability of these seeds: they grow up against gravity, they produce food with all the complex chemicals our bodies need for both growth and energy, and they have the unbelievable power to reproduce 1000’s of new seeds so we can continue to have additional crops year after year. And to top it off our food is de- licious! What a testimony to God’s incredible power and His gracious attention to details for each of us. The greatest testimony to God’s eternal power and divine nature is the creation of human life: Think of how God displays His incredible intelligence, His infinite imagination, and His eternal power in giving us life with all of our unique personalities and abilities.
