24 Jesus Invites You to Come Are you weary of trying to change yourself over and over again? Come to Jesus and let Him change you! God makes it clear that we do not have the power to overcome all of our destructive habits and attitudes. Have you begun to realize that your will-power and your determination are not enough? Are you tired of making new resolutions that you can’t keep? Listen to a Jewish man who was trying to change himself in his own power. . . . For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing. Romans 7:14-19 (NIV84) When you are honest with yourself, you know that you are a slave to your destructive habits and attitudes. Jesus has the power to give you a completely new nature with new desires – freeing you from the slavery of sin. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come! II Corinthians 5:17 The Bible uses the Greek word metamorphoo to describe the complete transformation that takes place when G o d creates within you a new nature. Our English word metamorphosis is derived from this Greek word, and we use meta- morphosis to describe the miracle that God performs when an earthbound, slow crawling caterpillar is transformed into a heaven bound, high flying butterfly. Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin . . . So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:34-36 (NIV 84)
