18 Knowing Jesus Christ The fact is that no one can know God the Father unless he knows Jesus His Son Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 First, let’s talk about Jesus as The Way – then we will talk about Jesus as The Truth and The Life. And you will know why no one can come to God the Father except through Jesus. Jesus is The Way, because He lovingly offered Himself as a sacri- fice for our sins so we could come to God the Father. The Bible says that no one is righteous - not even one (Romans 3:10). All of us have sinned, and we must stand before the throne of God to be judged for each and every wrong we have done. God remembers every sin (Hosea 7:2). There will be no secret sins - every sin will be revealed for all to see. Listen to what Jesus says: The Bible speaks of two deaths and both are penalties for sin. The 1st death is the death of the body and the 2nd death is a spiritual death. In The Bible death denotes separation, but it never denotes nonexistence. The Bible makes it very clear that your spirit is eter- nal – the real you will always exist. So the 1st death refers to your physical death when your spirit is separated from your body. And the 2nd death refers to your spiritual death when your spirit is sep- arated from God in an eternal hell. Jesus said your fear should be focused on God’s judgment and the 2nd death in hell. “ There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be pro- claimed from the roofs. “ I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.” Luke 12:2-5 (NIV84)
